  • Matchday 28 recap

Dortmund fans will want to forget matchday 28 ever happened. BVB’s embarrassing result in Munich means the black and yellows have lost first place but if there’s one good thing from this weekend it’s that the title race is not over just yet. It’s just one point but Dortmund have to be perfect from here on out.

The rest of the top 4 seem solidified, RB Leipzig won in Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt got a last second win against Schalke to extend their lead to fifth place. Borussia Mönchengladbach looked like a surefire top 4 candidate for so long but they have not been able to sustain their level from the first half of the season. Yet another draw against Werder Bremen means they have fallen behind in the race for a Champions League spot an they have to turn it around or they might even lose a top 6 spot.

Hannover and Nürnberg continue to tumble towards the 2.Bundesliga. Hannover lost Wolfsburg and Nürnberg did not manage to beat a direct competitor, drawing 1:1 in Stuttgart. VfB Stuutgart are also still in the relegation zone but they still have chances to catch either Augsburg or Schalke who both lost this weekend.

  • Watzke talks about left back situation

Hans-Joachim Watzke was a guest on Sky’s football talkshow “Wontorra” yesterday and somewhat confirmed that BVB are thinking about Filipe Luis as an option for next season.

First of all Watzke confirmed that the club will definitely do something at the position this summer and admitted that Luis is being thought about:

“If you hear that a Filipe Lúis is released on the market, then you think about it. We’re probably in that status right now“

In addition Watzke does not seem averse to signing a 33-year old player:

“I do not know if he is a player for us. It is also clear: Only with 19- and 21-year-olds it is gonna be difficult. To get a player who has a bit more experience is never wrong. (...) But it is not nearly as hot as it was in the media”

There might be a reason why Dortmund could look at someone like Luis if reports out of the UK are true. According to The Sun BVB have been keeping tabs on Ryan Sessegnon, Fulham’s young fullback is one of the biggest talents in the world at his position and could be available for free in 2020. Dortmund would seemingly be able to sign him to a pre-contract in January and basically get him for free at the end of next season. This would be a perfect scenario for BVB but it’s The Sun so take it with a grain of salt.

It looks like Borussia Dortmund have won the battle for Thorgan Hazard and found their Pulisic-replacement. According to kicker the Belgian winger has agreed to sign for BVB this summer, choosing the black and yellows rather than Atletico Madrd. Dortmund will have to negotiate with Borussia Mönchengladbach, the club is reportedly asking for 40€ million.

  • DFB Cup semifinals

The DFB Cup semifinals have been drawn and both remaining heavy favorites to win the title, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, have avoided each other but got away games. Bayern got the more difficult match-up, having to travel to Bremen but they are of course still the heavy favorites to win. The same goes for RB leipzig despite having to play in Hamburg.
