The Daily Bee (April 30th, 2019): Reus/Wolf suspensions

Were the DFB right to come down so harshly?

  • Reus/Wolf suspensions

By now we’ve all heard the news from yesterday that Marco Reus received a two game ban and Marius Wolf a three game ban for their red cards over the weekend. Seeing yesterdays comment section I can see we are all a little heated about this. Reus will miss our fixtures vs Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf, only coming back for our game vs Borussia Monchengladbach. Wolf is done for the season. While red cards are generally one game bans, the DFB are allowed to award extra game bans based on severity of the tackle. Re-watching the footage, both players did make some incredibly stupid tackles. Wolf especially after seeing his teammate already get sent off. If the situation was reversed, those tackles were so brutal we’d be calling for the same suspension. Nevertheless, there is no use complaining. Somehow Bayern has let BVB stay in the title race, Dortmund need to capitalize on it despite being without their captain.

  • David Wagner reportedly taking over as Schalke manager

According to BILD ex-BVB youth coach David Wagner is set to take over at our rivals Schalke. It is no surprise that Schalke would covet Wagner, who took lowly Huddersfield to the EPL and stayed up with them. However it is a little sad to see an ex-BVB guy at our most hated rivals. At the very least he probably will be great for them, so at least Schalke will actually field a competitive team next year. A good rival can only push us further.
