Borussia Dortmund’s weaknesses have been made clear in the past couple weeks and the club is working on correcting them. Last summer Michael Zorc claimed BVB would need two summer periods to finish the rebuild and it looks like they are eager to get it done. According to Sport Bild three German players are on their radar.
The biggest name is Timo Werner who is still refusing to sign an extension with RB Leipzig. The striker has been linked with Bayern Munich but Niko Kovac is said to prefer Luka Jovic which means Dortmund still have a chance to land Werner. The black and yellows desperately need to add another centre forward but it remains questionable if Werner has the right profile or if he’s to similar to Paco Alcacer.
Zorc will also have to look at the fullback position with Hakimi only being on loan for another year and both Schmelzer and Piszczek on the wrong side of 30. Philipp Max from FC Augsburg is reportedly a player BVB are looking at to reinforce their fullback situation. The 25-year old left back has put on some strong performances in the past for Augsburg and has shown promise with his runs on offense, however he has also shown some weaknesses on defense.
Rogerio from US Sassuolo, currently on loan from Juventus, has also been mentioned by Sport Bild as an option for Dortmund.
The third player mentioned in the report was Maximilian Eggestein (22) from Werder Bremen. The central midfielder is a promising young player who has been one of Bremen’s best players this season. Eggestein has scored 6 goals and added 2 assists in 25 games this season for Bremen.
