The Champions League round of 16 continues today with Olympique Lyon hosting Barcelona and Bayern Munich traveling to face Liverpool.

Barcelona is the clear favorite to advance against Lyon, it’s hard to see a scenario where the Catalans don’t advance to the next round but Lyon might at least be able to get a decent result at home.

Bayern’s matchup with Liverpool is a lot closer. Liverpool should be the favorite for the first leg at Anfield road but it could be an exciting tie. For BVB’s title hopes it might actually be better if the Bavarians remain in the competition as long as possible.

Dortmund fans and players alike were disappointed after yesterday’s draw against Nürnberg. Lucien Favre and Mario Götze tried to explain the performance:

Lucien Favre: “Every match is difficult. We didn’t play badly. We had enough chances to at least get one goal. But we didn’t manage it. We had a lot of possession but we should’ve put the ball into the penalty area more often. Nuremberg were very defensive-minded, they were waiting with 11 men behind the ball. We need to deal with that better. We should improve a few things, sometimes play across from left to right with more tempo which forces the opposition to move across and tires them out more quickly. We’re disappointed with the result. That comes with not winning five games in a row. Sometimes that can happen in a season.”

Mario Götze: “That wasn’t not enough. We need to get the three points. We had one or two goalscoring chances but we need to be more consistent. We need to play more offensively and get into the opposition box more quickly. Obviously it’s not easy, especially when they sit very deep. In the second period, we performed slightly better. We sometimes also need to try to play the ball blindly out to the flanks, to do something to make something happen. We didn’t manage that today. We need to improve and pick up points.”
