Somewhat unsurprisingly, Bayern finished top of the league with 800 points and Dortmund finished a distant second with 669 points. The top four is rounded out by Leverkusen and Schalke, and RB Leipzig are getting relegated, along with Koln, which is good to hear.
It’s a pleasant reminder of Dortmund’s achievements in the earlier part of the decade, claiming two titles, alongside a DFB Pokal victory and a Champions League final. The rest of the decade provided a little less, though they did win another Pokal in 2017 (as well as being runners up in the three years prior to that victory).
It also highlights how despite some disappointments this season, Dortmund have come really far in the past decade. They’re clearly the second best team in Germany in that period, and with the right transfer business (and maybe a new manager…) they may be able to present a stronger challenge to Bayern’s dominance.
If Dortmund were to experience the same success in the next decade (two league titles, two cups, and a Champions League final), would you consider it a success?
