Borussia Dortmund are back in second place after smashing VfL Wolfsburg 3:0. It wasn’t all perfect and BVb still have a long way to go to be truly back to their best but it was an encouraging performance at just the right time before the crucial games against Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.

Speaking of Bayern, they just sacked Niko Kovac after a devastating 1:5 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bavarians, similarly to BVB, had not looked good in recent weeks and this loss was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Hansi Flick will now take over as an interim coach until they find a permanent solution. Names like Erik ten Hag, José Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick are already making the rounds. This comes at an unfortunate time for BVB, Lucien Favre will now have no real opprtunity to scout Bayern for next week.

Borussia Mönchengladbach remain on top of the Bundesliga. The foals won a tough game in Leverkusen 2:1 and look like they will have to be taken seriously going forward.

RB Leipzig meanwhile continue to look impressive. Just days after their 6:1 win against Wolfsburg in the DFB Cup they smashed Mainz 8:0. They are now in third place level on points with Bayern, SC Freiburg who drew Werder Bremen 2:2 and Schalke 04 who celebrated a lst minute 3:2 win against FC Augsburg.

In the relegation zone SC Paderborn (0:3 loss to Hoffenheim), 1.FC Köln (0:2 loss to Fortuna Düsseldorf), FC Augsburg and Mainz 05 continue to look pedestrian and will likely fight for their spot in the Bundesliga the entire season. At least Union Berlin got a 1:0 win against Hertha BSC Berlin.

  • BVB travel to Bremen in the DFB Cup

Borussia Dortmund have drawn the team that eliminated them last year from the DFB Cup. In the round of 16 BVB will have to play in Bremen and hopefully get revenge for their loss that cost them a shot at the title last season.

  • Reus questionable for Inter

BVB might have to play in the decisive Champions League game against Inter Milan without Marco Reus. The captain had to be subbed out against Wolfsburg because of problems with his ankle joint. Examinations showed no lengthy injury but he’s still questionable for tomorrow’s match.
