The Daily Bee (November 20th, 2019): Calhanoglou - “Of course it is a goal to play for Bayern or BVB”

Would Hakan Calhanoglou improve BVB’s squad?

Mario Götze’s contract has been an ongoing topic for quite a while now and it looks like it will continue for the rest of the season. According to Sport Bild, the negotiations have stopped and won’t continue until next year, in January Götze will also be able to talk to other teams.

The outlet claims Götze will not sign a new contract with Dortmund if Lucien Favre stays on as BVB’s coach. The relationship between the 27-year old and Favre has been rocky in the past and despite some good performances the Swiss coach does not seem to rate Götze very highly. Without a coaching change it seems unlikely that Götze will continue his career in Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund has one of the best track records when it comes to young talents and they are already looking to add the next one. Karim Adeyemi is considered one of Germany’s biggest talents, Barcelona supposedly offered 15€ million for the RB Salzburg striker (he is currently on loan at FC Liefering) but were rejected. Dortmund definitely needs help at the striker position and Adeyemi could be a good fit but the black and yellows face tough competition from Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Hakan Calhanoglou left Bayer Leverkusen in 2014 for AC Milan but his career has a bit stagnated in Italy. Once one of the most sought after talents at his position, Calhanoglou hasn’t developed as expected and it looks like he would like to return to the Bundesliga:

“I grew up in Germany. Even though I enjoy being able to talk to the people in Italian - I miss speaking German very much. And from a sporting point of view: Of course it is a goal to play for Bayern, BVB or another big club in Germany.”

Despite his recent struggles Calhanoglou is still an interesting player and at 25 years old he is still young enough to be able to improve. Dortmund will likely need at least one new winger next summer if Jadon Sancho leaves the club and Calhanoglou could become an option. Would he be a good player for Dortmund?
