  • Champions League

The Champions League returns and some teams are already under pressure on matchday 3.

Bayer Leverkusen need to win against Atletico Madrid if they want to have any chance to advance to the knockout stage after their losses to Lokomotive Moscow and Juventus. A tall order for the Werkself that have not been at their best this season.

Bayern Munich are in a more comfortable spot, with 6 points already to their name. A victory against Olympiacos would almost guarantee them a spot in the next round.

Other notable games are Galatasaray vs Real Madrid and Tottenham Histpur vs Red Star Belgrade. Real have just one point from two games, they will need three points ot they might not make it out of the group stage. The same applies to last years finalist Tottenham, a draw against Olympiacos and an embarrassing 2:7 loss to Bayern are not enough.

  • Reus out against Inter

Marco Reus will miss the crucial Champions League game against Inter Milan. The captain had already played with the flu against Borussia Mönchengladbach but he won’t make the trip to Italy.

In addition to Reus, Paco Alcacer and Marcel Schmelzer will also miss the clash against Inter. Favre will now have to find a solution at the striker position, Mario Götze will be available but it’s unclear if he’s ready for 90 minutes yet.

  • Ballon d’Or nominees

France Football have released the shortlist for the “Ballon d’Or”. As expected Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have made the list and are once again the favorites to win the award. Virgil van Dijk should also have a shot at winning the award.

There is just one Bundesliga player on the list, Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
