“If you’re playing in Germany for RB Leipzig and you want to stay in Germany, then there’s really one club you can go to”.
Those were Timo Werner’s words after Leipzig’s 0:1 defeat in Munich from a few weeks ago. Most people saw it as a not so subtle hint that he wants to join the Bavarians and rumors suggested Bayern were interested in him. However those rumors have calmed down a bit and bow a new report surfaced from Bild claiming Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign the young striker.
Werner’s contract runs until 2020 and he has so far refused to sign an extension, if Leipzig want to get a fee for him they will have to sell now or next summer, a similar situation to BVB with Christian Pulisic.
The deal could include a players swap with Maximilian Philipp going the other way plus a transfer fee up to 40€ million. It seems like a hefty price to pay for someone with just one year left on his contract but Werner is Germany’s best striker prospect and he’s already got experience in the Bundesliga and with the national team.
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl has congratulated BVB for the transfer of Christian Pulisic in an interview with kicker:
“Dortmund have done a great job there. They sell a player with one year (left on his contract), because they keep him for half a year. So they sell a player with one year left for that sum. That’s a bit perverse.”
Christian Pulisic is a good player with world class potential but this feeling from Eberl, that BVB got themselves a great deal, seems to be the general consensus about the Pulisic transfer. Eberl himself might profit somewhat from the deal himself if BVB go for Thorgan Hazard this summer Dortmund would have to send a significant part of thet money to Gladbach.
- BVB win first game of the year
Borussia Dortmund have won their first match of the year yesterday, they won 3:2 thanks to a late tap-in from Marcel Schmelzer.
The black and yellows played with two different teams in each half and used 21 players in the friendly. Marvin Hitz was the only player to play the entire match. Maximilian Philipp was Dortmund’s best player yesterday and scored a brace in the first half, one of the goals was an early contender for goal of the year:

The transfer of Leonardo Balerdi to Borussia Dortmund is almost done. In an interview yesterday with Radio La Red Daniel Angelici, president of the Boca Juniors, has confirmed that he will meet with a delegation from BVB:
“Tomorrow I will meet with the German delegation. The player wants to leave.”
Balerdi has a release clause of 10$ million is his contract but he wants the club to receive a fair price, that’s why Dortmund’s offer is said to be higher than the release clause, however there have been conflicting reports on BVB’s exact offer.
Daily Buzz: Do you want BVB to go after Timo Werner? Would he be a good fit at the club? And most importantly how much should Dortmund offer for him?
