Good morning, Fear the Wall! Happy New Year. I hope you’ve all returned home safely from your New Year’s celebrations.
Let’s jump right into some hardcore soccer analysis:
Kid with Afro Scores Golazo
While the BVB adults have the holiday season off, the U-12s are in Spain for a tournament held by La Liga. They seem to be holding their own, and one of them scored a stunner of a goal the other day:
Our U-12 team took part in the annual #LaLigaPromises tournament in Tenerife.

Rumors that this was Axel Witsel disguised as a child are unconfirmed. Until further evidence arises and proves otherwise, I choose to believe that it was.
Bundesliga Fantasy Team of the Season
Last week, I posted Whoscored.com’s Bundesliga team of the season. Here’s the one posted by Bundesliga.com:
Captain Reus (best player) and Sancho make the Bundesliga Fantasy Team of the Hinrunde pic.twitter.com/7zZqkQuREf

As you can see, two Borussia Dortmund players, Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus, have made the squad. This makes sense, given their high goal and assist counts.
Overall, I think this one makes a lot more sense than the Whoscored one, at least in terms of the quality of players selected. Having Gregoritsch in for Axel Witsel is a bit baffling, but it makes sense in the context of fantasy-soccer, where goals and assists can disproportionately improve a player’s ratings.
Another bizarre aspect of this is that all three “center backs” have actually spent most of their time playing as full backs. I suppose full backs are more likely to have offensive stats.
