The first matchday of the Champions League concluded yesterday and both German teams did relatively well. Bayern had no problem winning their game against Benfica, as expected. TSG Hoffenheim, in their first Champions League appearance drew Shaktar Donetsk which isn’t a bad result for them.

However with Manchester City surprisingly losing their home game against Olympique Lyon, Hoffenheim’s chances of qualifying for the round of 16 might actually be a bit worse. ManCity is still expected to win the group and Lyon now have three unexpected points.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s first CL-game for Juventus ended after just 29 minutes when CR7 got a controversial red card. Juventus still won their game against Valencia thanks to two converted penalties from Pjanic. Reigning champions Real Madrid started their campaign with a dominant 3:0 victory over AS Roma even without Cristiano Ronaldo.

Axel Witsel has reportedly left Adidas for Puma, the Belgian international used to play with shoes from Adidas but showed up in Puma shoes for Dortmund’s Champions League match against Brugge. Puma is not just Borussia Dortmund’s kit supplier but also a stakeholder of BVB. It’s not the first time a newly acquired player has decided to leave their usual brand in order to join Puma.
