- Divock Origi?!
Yesterday rumors surfaced linking BVB to Liverpool striker Divock Origi, Liverpool Echo first broke the news. At first this sounded like the usual story we get during silly season but since then kicker, Ruhr Nachrichten and WAZ have all confirmed BVB’s interest in the Belgian striker. However Dortmund have not yet made an offer and it seems the black and yellows just asked about his availability. Liverpool are supposedly asking 30€ million for their centre forward.
To be honest after about one year of preparation time this would be the ultimate let down. Origi has never shown that he can be an actual top scorer for a Champions League team, just last season he mostly disappointed while on loan with VfL Wolfsburg, scoring only 7 goals. Paying 30€ million for a talented but unproven player who has just one year left on his deal would probably give BVB-fans Schürrle flashbacks. After a very good transfer window this is one truly bizarre rumor.
According to Bild Dortmund still want to sign a striker but want to offload some players first to reduce the number of players on the bloated roster. One candidate for a transfer is still Raphael Guerreiro and former BVB coach Thomas Tuchel ist apparently still interested to sign the Portuguese left back. Bild claim Guerreiro would be available for around 40€ million.
- Matchday!
Today Borussia Dortmund will start their season with an away game against Greuther Fürth in the first round of the DFB Cup. BVB will hope to start the season off with a decisive win. So far the biggest surprises of the cup are the early exits of VfB Stuttgart (0:2 against Hansa Rostock) and Eintracht Frankfurt (1:2 against Ulm) as well as the relatively disappointing performances from Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, both of them only won 1:0 against lower tier sides.
