Jacob Bruun Larsen has been arguably the biggest winner of the pre-season for Dortmund. The young winger started the summer being just another talented rotation player but his performances so far indicate he will get actual minutes in important games. As Bild put it, there’s a good chance he will start for BVB if they start their season next Monday in the FB Cup against Greuther Fürth. The outlet also reveals that Bruun Larsen and his agent met with Zorc before Favre arrived and asked for a transfer away from BVB, apparently the 19-year-old thought he would have no chance at playing time. Luckily Zorc convinced him to stay.
“We will only make a transfer if we are 100% convinced of the player and we won’t buy a striker just to buy a striker”, those are the words from Michael Zorc on BVB’s ongoing striker search. He adds that “It has to make sense, that is essential”, and that the prices are “extreme” at the moment for centre forwards. The search is complicated and as RN put it there isn’t a lack of candidates just a lack of quality on the market right now. Dortmund still have two weeks to finally find their Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replacement but it looks likely right now that Dortmund will try their luck with a combination of Philipp and Reus.
Alexander Isak meanwhile seems to play no role under Lucien Favre. Dortmund once paid over 8€ million for the Swedish striker in the hopes that he could develop into BVB’s next great centre forward but the hopes that this can still happen are apparently dwindling.
Daily Buzz: Should Bruun Larsen start? This would mean Reus plays at striker and both Sancho and Philipp find themselves on the bench with Pulisic starting at right winger. Or would you prefer another line-up?
