Julian Weigl has been heavily linked to PSG in recent days in order to reunite with Thomas Tuchel, however kicker confirm that Borussia Dortmund are nit planning on letting the young midfielder go. There have been no talks between both clubs. Lucien Favre sees Weigl’s best position as the “6”, the central player in front of the defense. The 22-year-old has mostly recovered from his injury problems and might join the team shortly.
Axel Witsel, who has been linked to BVB, would not be Weigl’s replacement but Dortmund rather plan with both of them next to each other in midfield. This would leave a striker as the only remaining target for BVB for the rest of the summer.
- Alternatives for Witsel?
It’s become pretty clear that BVB still want another defensive midfielder. As of right now Witsel seems to be Dortmund’s first choice but BVB might prepare themselves if the deal falls through.
According to Goal the black and yellows are interested in 20-year old midfielder Liziero from FC Sao Paulo. BVB inquired about the players availability and were told that it would take at least 10€ million to get him. Liziero played 13 games for Sao Paulo in his first season as a professional.
Another could be Benjamin Bourigeaud from Stade Rennes according to L’Equipe. The 24-year-old played a very strong season for Rennes with 12 goals and 7 assits in 41 games. Dortmund would have to pay at least 25€ million to get the talented midfielder.
Daily Buzz: Weigl with Witsel, could that work? Assuming BVB get Witsel what would be the best formation and line-up for Dortmund’s midfield?
