The Daily Bee (July 10th, 2018): Confusion surrounding Seri and Leão

  • BVB to swoop in for Seri?

Several French journalists claim BVB could swoop in for OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri. Chelsea was heavily rumored to be Seri’s next club but the “Blues” are said to have some problems with their financing. Roman Abramovich, Chelsea’s Russian benefactor, has been influenced by the political tensions between the UK and Russia. As a consequence Chelsea cannot currently transfer money to other countries. Several of their transfers have stalled this summer and Seri seems to be the next one.

Although BVB have already signed Thomas Delaney this summer and have a plethora of midfielders on the squad the connection between Seri and his former coach Lucien Favre is easily made. If BVB sell some of their midfielders like Nuri Sahin and Sebastian Rode, a move for Seri could seem more likely. The Ivorian international has a 40€ million release clause in his contract that runs out in 2019.

There is some confusion about Rafael Leão and Borussia Dortmund. Portuguese outlet A Bola claimed today that Sporting’s young striker has signed a 5-year deal with Borussia Dortmund. The 19-year-old Leão is one of Portugal’s best young talents at the striker position and could be the centre forward BVB have been looking for.

In addition he would be available on a free transfer because of Sporting’s curious incident a few months back where “fans” invaded their training grounds and attacked some players. Several of their players have in turn terminated their contracts after last season and are now looking for a new club.

However Leão seemed to deny the report this morning in an instagram post where he wrote “Uhhhhh they know more about my life than I do”. By “They” he probably means the media which would hint at the fact that the report is false but he has already deleted the post.
