Borussia Dortmund have been drawn against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the first round of the 2018/19 DFB Cup. Last season Fürth played in the 2.Bundesliga and narrowly avoided relegation, finishing in 15th place level on points with 16th placed Erzgebirge Aue and only avoiding the relegation game because of the goal difference.

Fürth is a small city in northern Bavaria with only about 125.000 residents. The club has only one Bundesliga season under their belt in 2012/13 but got immediately relegated after just one season. However they have been a mainstay in the 2.Bundesliga. There most famous players are Roberto Hilbert, a former German international and young American Julian Green who played last season for them on loan from VfB Stuttgart.

Borussia Dortmund have played 5 games against Greuther Fürth, winning four of them. The only loss came in the first round of the DFB Cup in 1990 when they lost 3-1 in Fürth.

Dortmund will surely be the favorite against Fürth even though a 2.Bundesliga team should never be underestimated in the first round.
