Borussia Dortmund have officially signed Thomas Delaney from Werder Bremen. The black and yellows will pay 20€ million for the defensive midfielder who will sign a 4-year contract.

Prior to his one and a half seasons in Bremen, he played for FC Copenhagen in the Danish Superligaen winning 5 league titles and 4 Danish Cups. He also played in the Champions League with FC Copenhagen.

The 26-year-old midfielder played 36 games in the Bundesliga and DFB Cup for Bremen last season, scoring 3 goals and adding 6 assists. Delaney is a solid defensive midfielder who gives Dortmund a physical presence in midfield that was sorely lacking last season after the departure of Sven Bender. We will have to see how exactly he fits into Lucien Favre’s plan for next season but he’ll give the new coach a player with a different skill-set than Julian Weigl, Mo Dahoud, Mario Götze & Co.

Welcome Thomas Delaney!
