It’s that time of year again folks. The landscape that is European football is about to be completely engulfed by the “Silly Season”. May the tabloids have mercy on our souls.
It has been a good while since we had a crazy rumor on the site, but here’s a really promising one. According to the Mirror, Manchester United are eyeing Dortmund’s American youngster, and they are cooking-up a blockbuster player swap to try and get him.
Manchester United are ready to use Anthony Martial in their bid to land Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Christian Pulisic.
Martial is surplus to requirements at United after a disappointing third season, with boss Jose Mourinho having sanctioned the France forward’s exit this summer.
Dortmund’s versatile forward Pulisic has emerged as one of the most sought-after young players in Europe and could form part of a player-plus-cash swap deal involving Martial.
The £40million-rated Pulisic has also caught the eye of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, but United have now turned their attention to him, with Martial being used as a potential makeweight.
Obviously, this will never happen. Player swaps are incredibly rare, and this one is extremely absurd.
Christian Pulisic hasn’t had the best season at Dortmund, but no one in the squad really has. Young footballers always have their ups and their downs as they grow physically and as a player. He has been around for a while, but Pulisic is still only 19-years-old.
Anthony Martial’s name is mentioned a lot in transfer rumors regarding Manchester United, but he’s still only 22-years-old himself. He plays his part in what is a very crowded squad at Old Trafford. Would they really want to give up on him so soon? And would they really be willing to send Martial and a sizable sum of cash to BVB for an even younger player?
It seems highly unlikely because it is highly unlikely, and because the reporting is from The Mirror. They are not exactly the gold standard for credibility in the English media.
Don’t expect Christian Pulisic to be bombing up the right wing next year for any club other than Borussia Dortmund.
