The goalkeeper-discussion has surrounded BVB all season long after the announcement of Roman Weidenfeller’s retirement, what would Borussia Dortmund do? Sign someone who will compete with Roman Bürki for the #1 spot like Horn, Trapp or Hradecky or rather elevate Bürki to the unequivocal starting goalkeeper and sign a backup?
It seems like they are going for the latter if a report from Bild is to be believed. The German outlet claims the black and yellows will sign Marwin Hitz this summer when his contract with FC Augsburg ends after the end of the season.
The 30-year-old Swiss international has played in 153 Bundesliga games for both VfL Wolfsburg and FC Augsburg and won the Bundesliga title with Wolfsburg in 2009. Hitz would be a solid and reliable replacement who knows the league and will probably be ok with a back-up role on the team.
While Bild isn’t always the most reliable outlet the report is backed up by the fact that Augsburg confirmed today that Hitz will leave the club this summer.
