The Daily Bee (May 18th, 2018): Morata linked to BVB again

Swansea City v Chelsea - Premier League
  • BVB friendlies

Borussia Dortmund continued their post-season friendly trour with another round of games against lower tier German teams. BVB played two charity matches of 45 minutes against Westfalia Herne and DSC Wanne-Eickel. The black and yellows shockingly lost the first match 0-1 against Herne, a fifth-tier side. The second 45 minutes were a bit better with Dortmund winning 4-1 against Wanne-Eickel. Schmelzer, Isak, Castro and Yarmolenko scored for Dortmund.

Now the team will travel to the USA for a friendly against Los Angeles FC on May 22nd.

  • Wolfsburg win first relegation game

The Bundesliga season isn’t technically over just yet. VfL Wolfsburg and Holstein Kiel are still playin the relegation games to see who will be part of Germany’s top flight next season. Wolfsburg won the first leg at home with 3-1 and will have a solid position for the next game, although it isn’t over just yet. Kiel had a good game but just could not convert their chances, the Northern Germans still have a chance in the second leg.

  • Transfer rumors update

Lucien Favre might have vetoed the Lichtsteiner transfer but if new rumors are to be believed the Swiss coach has some ideas of his own. According to Fussballtransfers.com the coach has named two players he wants Dortmund to sign, Nicolas Pépé and Abdou Diallo.

Diallo is currently playing for Mainz in the Bundesliga and played a good 2017/18 campaign which has led to several clubs being interested in him. The 22-year-old centerback could be a candidate to replace Sokratis if the Greek international does leave for Arsenal.

Pépé might be a bit of a surprising target. The 22-year-old is cuurently playing for LOSC Lille in France. He was initially a winger but last season he mostly lined up at striker, scoring 14 goals in 37 games. It’s not clear yet if Favre wants him to be the primary striker of he would just be a rotation player for both the striker and winger positions but as the number 1 striker he would be a surprising signing.

Meanwhile Michy Batshuayi will probably not return to the black and yellows. While he had some good performances there is a belief among the decision-makers that he has some flaws that don’t warrant the 60€ million price tag that Chelsea has put on him. This has led to the Daily Mirror speculating that BVB could go for Alvaro Morata instead.
