Just hours after Borussia Dortmund’s defeat to Hoffenheim in the final week of the season, manager Peter Stöger has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract after it expires in June.
According to Stöger, the decision had been made some time ago. After being brought in to fix the mess that was Peter Bosz’s tenure, Peter Stöger brought some improved form to the Westfalenstadion. BVB went undefeated in the Bundesliga for quite some time, but repeated shock defeats to Bayern, Schalke, and now Hoffenheim have made Stöger’s announcement a formality.
Stöger’s job was always going to be ensuring a champions league finish, which he managed to accomplish. While BVB will be playing in Europe next year, there are still tons of questions regarding the club’s future. Lucien Favre has lots of work to do, and upper management will need to take a good, long look at the squad to decide who needs to stay and who needs to go.
