BVB will have quite a few changes this summer and the centerback position seems to be added to the list of needs. According to Bild Sokratis will leave Borussia Dortmund once the season has ended and will join Arsenal London. The 29-year-olds agent Konstantinos Farras is in touch with the Premier League club to finalize the deal which will be announced as soon as the Champions League qualification is secured for BVB. The black and yellows will receive around 20€ million for their defender.
Sokratis is a fan favorite but has not been at his best this season. One could argue that Akanji and Toprak should start ahead of him at this point so a departure would probably not hurt Dortmund that much especially if Dortmund can bring in a new centerback who might be younger and has more potential. In addition BVB does not have much of a choice if the Greek international refuses to sign an extension, his current deal with the club ends in 2019.
If a report from kicker is to be believed Borussia Dortmund have decided to back Roman Bürki as their starting goalkeeper going forward. There were two options for BVB, either get a goalkeeper who is the clear number 2 behind him or sign someone and declare the starting spot an open competition this summer. The decision makers have decided to go with the former, the club will definitely sign a new goalkeeper after Roman Weidenfeller has retired but he will be the number 2 behind Bürki.
Dortmund’s rumored targets have started to diminish in the last few days with Timo Horn deciding to stay in Cologne, Lukas Hradecky perfering a move to Bayer Leverkusen and Kevin Trapp supposedly never really being a target in the first place.
