According to Bild Borussia Dortmund are looking around for a new centerback in case Sokratis doesn’t extend his contract and BVB would be forced to sell the Greek defender this summer. One of the targets is supposedly Filip Benkovic, the 20-year-old is currently playing for Dinamo Zagreb and is a young talented and tall CB who excels at one-on-one duels and headers.

Benkovic would be a good addition but is probably not experienced enough to replace Sokratis. It’s possible BVB are interested in Benkovic but if Sokratis leaves they’ll surely go for a more experienced CB to replace him.

  • Bouna Sarr on BVB’s radar

French outlet l’Equipe claim Borussia Dortmund are interested in Olympique Marseille’s right back Bouna Sarr. The 26-year-old has been a winger until last summer until he changed positions to right back which has led to somewhat of a breakout season for Sarr.

Sarr is an interesting player but would be a risky signing. He’s already 26 and had just one season at the position, although a great first season at RB. From that perspective his trajectory was not unlike Lukasz Piszczek’s who joined Dortmund from Hertha BSC Berlin and was actually a striker for most of his career before being turned into a right back.

Marco Rose is currently coaching Red Bull Salzburg but has been a rumored target for several teams looking for a coach this summer and BVB is one of them. Salzburg’s development under Rose has been impressive and he’ll probably get a chance at abigger club relatively soon. Talking to kicker Rose said the following when asked if he’ll still be with Salzburg next season: “I’m currently completely focused on my job here” and “I’m currently not having any conversations”. That doesn’t exactly sound like a full commitment to his current club and is similar to the usual “as of right now” comments we often hear before coaches/players actually leave. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at another club next season and Borussia Dortmund could possibly be that club.
