  • A new list

kicker has published a new list of players Borussia Dortmund might get rid of this summer and it has several surprises on them.

First of all this is all just speculation, this is not definitive and we have to assume that not all of these players will definitely leave the club. So let’s take a look at all the players mentioned.

Some of them aren’t really surprising, Durm and Rode haven’t played for BVB and are simply not reliable. The same could be said about Guerreiro, who is constantly injured and supposedly doing everything he can to stay healthy. Castro, Sahin, Schmelzer, Toljan and Schürrle just haven’t met expectations and are clearly declining, some of them might stick around but probably not as starters with the club.

However other names are a bit surprising, mostly Weigl and Götze. Mario Götze was solid this season and it’s questionable what kind of value he would have on the market. Julian Weigl’s inclusion is possibly the most shocking one but it indicates BVB want to move away from a possession-style of play. Weigl is a fantastic player but he basically only fits a system that is based around a central figure in midfield that controls the build-up. Dortmund have to make a choice between building a team around him or cash in on him to build a new team.

The youngsters Isak, Sancho and Zagadou are also on the list which is quite surprising although there is a possibility that they will just go on loan to a new club to get some experience. However the kicker-report does mention that there are some doubts among the BVB management that he is 100% focused on being the best player he can be.

Yesterday a report surfaced that Dortmund was the favorite to sign Mitchell Weiser however two new articles claim the young right back is not on Dortmund’s wish-list and will join Bayer Leverkusen instead.

According to WAZ Dortmund is looking for a right back who is better defensively. Weiser is a great player on offense but offers little to improve BVB’s defensive stability. Meanwhile kicker a reporting that he has already agreed to a deal with Bayer Leverkusen and he will join them this summer.
