- The Thomas Tuchel-mystery
Borussia Dortmund isn’t the only team who’s looking for a new coach for the upcoming. As we all know Jupp Heynckes won’t continue at Bayern Munich which could influence BVB’s chase for a new coach. In addition teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG and possibly even Real Madrid will also look for a new coach.
When it comes to the Bavarians we all kinda thought they had their target already, Thomas Tuchel was rumored to be the desired target...until yesterday. Sport Bild was the first outlet to break the news that Bayern would have to look elsewhere after Tuchel turned them down for “an international top club”, the report didn’t really mention which club that would be.
Just a few hours later kicker broke the news that Tuchel’s new club would be Arsenal London which would be somewhat shocking considering the fact that Sven Mislintat was just hired by “The Gunners” and as we all know their strained relationship at Dortmund was basically the starting point of the Tuchel/BVB-feud.
However kicker’s report was quickly refuted by Sportbuzzer who claim that he’ll go to either PSG or Chelsea and will definitely not join Arsenal. Reviersport is meanwhile a bit cautious with speculating about Tuchel’s future but they agree with one thing, Thomas Tuchel won’t be Bayern’s next coach.
So how does this affect BVB? Well it has a few implications for the black and yellows. First of all it means Bayern are still looking for a new coach and are therefore competing with BVB. New rumors suggest they have now turned to Lucien Favre as a possible replacement for Heynckes and the Swiss coach who is currently at OGC Nice is also on BVB’s list for this summer. However other reports suggest Favre is not in the running at Bayern. It’s also possible that they’ll turn their attention to any of the other BVB-targets like Nagelsmann, Hasenhüttl or Kovac.
Furthermore, if Tuchel really does join Arsenal then all the attention should be turned towards Hans-Joachim Watzke. Let’s be cautious about this because nothing is confirmed just yet but if Tuchel and Mislintat are really willing to put their differences aside and work together just mere months after they both exited BVB then questions have to be asked why this wouldn’t have been possible at Dortmund. While this definitely wasn’t the only reason for Tuchel’s departure from the club it still was the starting point of the tensions between him and Watzke.
Michy Batshuayi is doing well since joining BVB and it appears that he’s happy to be with the club like these comments from bundesliga.com show: “I was very well received by Dortmund, by the whole club. I felt a lot of love, a footballer is stronger when he has confidence,” BVB’s prolific frontman said, in quotes appearing on Sky Sports. “The fans are unbelievable and the stadium is beautiful. I really never expected to settle so quickly,” the forward continued.
Daily Buzz: BVB, Bayern, Arsenal, Cheslsea, PSG - it looks like all of these clubs will hire a new coach this summer. Who do you think it’ll be for each of those clubs?
