Well this is one interesting article in today’s kicker print issue! The article talks about Martinez, the BVB-coaching options, the right back position and Mats Hummels.
- Striker options
Let’s start with Lautaro Martinez, the 20-year-old striker might be the target for Dortmund at the striker position. Both kicker and Ruhr Nachrichten confirm via seperate sources that the talented young striker from Racing Club de Avellaneda is the main target fro Dortmund to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang long term. This would match reports out of Argentina that BVB are not only interested but have already made a 40$ million (~32€ million) offer to convince the player to join them. Several big European clubs are chasing Martinez right now with Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan also in the mix.
As for Michy Batshuayi who has scored yet again for Dortmund against Hannover, well, he might not be available at all with reports suggesting that Chelsea might want him back. Keeping Batshuayi would be the best option but if Chelsea refuse to sell him Dortmund might not have a choice to look for other options. In addition the report mentions that Dortmund have doubts about how Batshuayi would fit into the system that they’ll try to play and possible “inconsistencies”.
- Coaching position
The kicker-report also reiterates the usual suspects for the BVB-coaching position this summer which are Julian Nagelsmann, Lucien Favre, Niko Kovac and Ralph Hasenhüttl.
This is not really anything new but it’s interesting to note that it seems like the club has probably realized that Peter Stöger is not a good option beyond this summer and will hire a new coach at the end of the season.
- New fullbacks for Dortmund?
Furthermore it seems like Dortmund might look for a new right back even though the club recently extended the contract with Lukasz Piszczek. According to the article the club isn’t entirely convinced about Jeremy Toljan and are scouting for a new fullback all over Europe. Some of the criteria for the new right back are “aggressiveness, dynamism and mentality”.
As for the left back position, the club officials have apparently cooled on Raphael Guerreiro, not because he isn’t good enough but because of his continuing health problems. Jonas Hector from Köln might be an option this summer.
- Mats Hummels
If this wasn’t enough already they dropped an additional bombshell, a possible return of Mats Hummels!
Yes you heard that right, the outlet speculates that if bayern Munich hire Thomas Tuchel, Hummels would possibly want to move away from the Bavarians, stating: “Borussia Dortmund are dreaming of bringing Mats Hummels back to the Westfalenstadion if Thomas Tuchel becomes the coach at FC Bayern.”
At this point this is nothing but speculation and even if Hummels would want to leave Bayern I personally doubt they would let him go back to BVB but then again I also thought I’d never see Mario Götze in a BVB-jersey again so what do I know.
Daily Buzz: Well....thoughts?
