What just happened?!

Dortmund won 3-2 today against Eintracht Frankfurt at home. While 3-2 seems like respectable enough of a score line for a 4v5 match up the way it played out was kind of wild. The BVB goals were from Marco Russ(OG) and two from Michy Batshuayi.

The first half started well for Dortmund. Mo Dahoud was a danger everywhere and created a lot of forward momentum for BVB. Our first goal came from a Christian Pulisic cross directed at Marco Reus. As Marco Russ tried to get it away from Marco Reus he slid the ball into his own net. After around the 25 minute mark things turned for BVB as Frankfurt took more control of the game. Both sides picked up some crucial yellows as well in the half. Dahoud got himself a yellow then made a few more fouls after that leading to Stoger subbing him at the half.

The second half was wild. Frankfurt dominated the game for the first 20 minutes. BVB looked like the same BVB that had been pissing away leads all Ruckrunde. Weigl and Castro do not make for a good midfield duo. Weigl especially was terrible in the 1 half he played. It was a Weigl giveaway that led to the sequence of events for the first Frankfurt goal. After a Weigl giveaway Frankfurt earned a free kick outside out box that was finished by Luka Jovic. with 15 minutes left to play it seemed like 1-1 would be the final score. It was then the game got crazy, maybe you can even say it got BATshit crazy. Michy Batsuayi, who came on for Phillip, brought us back into the game with a goal at 77’. The assist was from Pulisic who made that same cross to create his close chance to Schurrle in the first half as well as the cross that forced the OG. Reus was then subbed off for Sokratis to secure the 2-1 lead. Frankfurt had their chances for the last 10 minutes but BVB seemed like they would keep it. Right at the 90th minute Frankfurt tied it up thanks to a good sequence of passes and a finish from Danny Blum. Dortmund deserved to finish this one tied. We were awful all half and gave up the lead that the miracle goal Pulisic and Bats created for us. Then at the very last moment Bats slotted another in off a long pass. Right in front of the yellow wall Bats saved the game for us.

This is a hard game to take good things away from. We put three points between us and Frankfurt which is important for our top 4 goals. Dahoud, Bats, Pulisic, and Reus all looked great. But other then that we were awful. Schmelzer, Weigl and Piz all gave away the ball too much. Castro was actually #GoodCastro for the first half but he turned back into himself quite quickly after 45’. Overall something needs to be done about this Malaise that overtakes us when we go up.

So what are your thoughts on the game?
