One of the most luminous recent bright spots for Dortmund has been the play of Jadon Sancho. The 17-year-old Englishman is shorter than most of the other players on the pitch, but he hasn’t looked out of place at all in the Bundesliga.

Unfortunately, BVB will now have to play without Sancho for the foreseeable future. The winger will be out for “several weeks” with an ankle injury he picked up in Friday’s match against FC Koln.

Sancho started on the bench, came on, but couldn’t finish playing after picking up a knock. We’ve now learned that the knock is ankle ligament damage. Thankfully, it seems like minor damage and not something major. A few weeks out is a lot better than a few months out.

Dortmund will miss having Sancho as an option coming off the bench, but their depth on the wings means that they should still be able to manage. Marco Reus’ imminent return would be especially helpful in that department.

It’s a shame for Sancho, who really had started incredibly well at BVB. Hopefully he will be able to come back after his injury and continue the progress that he has already been making in his first season at the Westfalenstadion.
