- Watzke extending his contract?
According to Manager Magazin Borussia Dortmund will extend Hans-Joachim Watzke’s contract until 2021. His current deal will end in 2019. Watzke has been with the club since 2006 and has led the club from a near bankrupt club into a perennial Champions League participant. However he has earned some criticism, most recently for BVB’s disappointing coaching appointments.
- Philipp, Durm back in training - Kagawa, Guerreiro missing
Erik Durm is currently doing an individual program to help him get back into a rhythm. Surprisingly Maximilian Philipp is back in full team training which is kinda shocking considering the severity of his injury. It will be a welcome addition to the team which is currently lacking wingers with Sancho and Yarmolenko still injured.
Meanwhile Shinji Kagawa and Raphael Guerreiro both missed practice and will miss Thursday’s game against Atalanta. Sadly Guerreiro’s injury appears to be more severe with Stöger telling reporters after practice that it “doesn’t look good” for the young Portuguese international.
- A new DM for Dortmund?
Bild published an article proposing several candidates for BVB’s midfield. Watzke raised some eyebrows recently stating they were looking for a “Xabi Alonso-type player” and of course this means we’ll get several new rumors over the next few months. Nevertheless the German tabloid mentions a few interesting names that could be interesting for BVB like Emre Can, Asier Illarramendi, Fabinho and Leander Dendoncker.
