Still undefeated!!!
Dortmund stay top of the table with a 2-1 win at home vs Werder Bremen. Our goals came from Paco Alcacer and Marco Reus, while the lone Werder goal came from Bremen captain Max Kruse.
The first half went almost entirely Dortmunds way. We were able to pick apart Bremen time and time again. There was an early missed pen call when Reus was taken down in the box. For some reason either VAR was not used or VAR missed it because it was a clear foul in the box on the captain. Soon after then pen Paco put a goal in the back of the net that was also wrongly called offside. Not a great start to the game for the ref, but this did not hinder BVB’s confidence. On a free kick outside the box, Reus and Raph did a little trick play that allowed Raph to put in a beautiful cross to Paco, who did slotted it easily. Our second goal came from a Sancho run and pass inside the box right to Reus, who finished with ease. The Sancho pass was so perfect especially in a situation where most young players would take a shot from where he passed. The half didn’t end without a goal for Werder however, when their Captain Kruse scored an amazing goal with his weak foot over our backline and past Burki. Delaney should have closed out on Kruse, but a goal like that is hard to defend or predict. Dortmund needs to learn to play better after goals like that.
Dortmund again dominated most of the second half. We had chances from free-kicks and breaks but we couldn't finish at all. As easy as it was to break through Werder, Bremen were also getting some chances at the second half carried on. Once we got to the 80th minute, Dortmund let Werder take control of the game. This did not seem to be the game plan either because Favre made offensive subs with Paco off for Gotze, Raph off for Pulisic and Sancho off for Phillip. But Werder blew their last chances and Dortmund won 2-1(after a Gotze goal was called offside at the death).
Overall this was a good game for Dortmund. In the past when Dortmund start to take the backfoot in the end of games, we had given it up. not today. Akanji had a great game defensively, its good we started him. Raphael had one of his best games in black and yellow. if we had finished our chances better he would have 3 or 4 assists rather then 1.
What did you think of the game?
