The Champions League group stage has concluded and we now know all 16 teams that advance to the next round.

The last team to qualify was Olympique Lyon who secured their place among Europe’s top 16 teams with a 1:1 draw against Shakhtar. Despite their losses, Real Madrid and Juventus still topped their groups because neither AS Roma nor Manchester United could take advantage, both of them lost their matches too. The most thrilling game was taking place in Amsterdam where Ajax and Bayern drew 3:3 in a wild game with two red cards, two penalties and several lead changes. In the end the draw was enough for Bayern to finish in first place.

The draw for the round of sixteen will be next Monday at 12.00h CET and Borussia Dortmund will be in pot 1 which gives them a chance at an easier draw. Here a quick look at the pots:

Pot 1: BVB, Barcelona, PSG, Porto, Bayern, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Juventus

Pot 2 : Atletico, Tottenham, Liverpool, Schalke, Ajax, Olympique Lyon, AS Roma, Manchester United

Teams from the same group or from the same league can’t be drawn against each other which means BVB can’t be drawn against Atletico Madrid or Schalke.

The initial verdict against BVB because of “abusing chants” against TSG Hoffenheim patron Dietmar Hopp has been changed. The first verdict prohibited the Dortmund fans from any use of flags and banners during games against Hoffenheim until the 2020/21 season, now however this ban is only for away games. Nevertheless the fine of 50.000€ and the probation until 2021 still remain, if Dortmund fans transgress the rules once again they will be banned from away games in Hoffenheim for three years.

Daily Buzz: Guerreiro has been finding his form lately as a winger and he’s even BVB’s top scorer in the Champions League with 4 goals. We’re mostly talking about Jacob Bruun Larsen against Christian Pulisic for the remaining starting spot on the wing but should Raphael Guerreiro maybe be the starter next to Reus and Sancho?
