Borussia Dortmund qualified for the round of sixteen with an incredibly boring goalless draw against Brugge. Ateltico was able to win their match against AS Monaco and are now in prime position to win the group. BVB have to hope Atletico lose or draw in their last game to have a chance at first place.

Schalke 04 have also qualified for the knockout round despite their 1-3 loss in Porto. This makes it three Bundesliga teams that will stay in the competition beyond the group stage.

Meanwhile Barcelona and Porto have also qualified for the next round. Tottneham kept their chance with a late victory against Inter but they will still have to get a result in Barcelona and hope for an Inter slip up against PSV.

The most interesting situation is in group C where three heavyweights duke it out for two spots. Napoli is currently in the lead with 9 points, one point ahead of PSG who had a huge win at home against Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp’s team is under immense pressure in the last game at home against Napoli, the Reds will need to get three points or they will already be eliminated from the competition.

VfB Stuttgart are seemingly linked to every BVB-player available, after Shinji Kagawa and Sebastian Rode, the next player on Stuttgart’s radar is Maximilian Philipp. The attacking player has not yet had a great season for BVB and has not been a regular for BVB so far. Michael Reschke, Stuttgart’s sporting director, is now looking into the possibility of signing Philipp on loan in January.

  • BVB-injury update

Just minutes before the end of yesterday’s draw against Brugge, Axel Witsel had to be subbed of because of an injury. Luckily for BVB it was just a cramp and he might be available again on Saturday against Freiburg.

Marius Wolf however won’t be available for a week, the winger suffered a knee injury and will miss some time.
