Borussia Dortmund’s foray into the English market when they bought Jadon Sancho was somewhat unconventional. English talents had seldom found their way into Germany’s first tier but the success of Sancho in Dortmund as well as some other like Reiss Nelson in Hoffenheim have opened Pandora’s box.
BVB are looking for new talents and they continue to look for them in England as Sebastian Kehl has confirmed to the Daily Mail:
The focus is on the English market,’ he said. ‘Jadon is a good example. We take a lot of care over our scouting. In England, the young players haven’t been getting the chance to play because the structure of the clubs and squads is totally different. It could be a good thing for us. But we have to be fast. If we’re not fast, then...’
Kehl did not stop there, he also commented on another one of Dortmund’s talented young players:
Sergio Gomez, who’s 18, left Barcelona’s La Masia to come here. That’s a sign,’ Kehl said. ‘We’ve tried to make him stronger and he should be the next guy.’
The article contains a lot more quotes from Kehl, Sancho and Ricken about various topics, it’s definitely worth a read for every BVB-fan.
- Silly season breakdown
We have yet another international break on our hands and you all know what that means, a slew of new transfer rumors! As always these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.
Maximiliano Gomez (Sky Sports): The 22-year-old striker from Celta Vigo has been linked to BVB before and is definitely an interesting player but with Paco Alcacer on the roster it seems unlikely Dortmund would go for another starting caliber player at the position.
Sandro Tonali (Supernews): Tonali is considered one of Italy’s biggest talents and has already been called for the national team despite playing in Serie B for Brescia Calcio and only being 18 years old. The “new Pirlo” as hes referred to is an intriguing talent who is chased by half of Europe. It would be surprising if BVB wouldn’t be interested, at the same time it would be surprising if he actually ended up in black and yellow.
Alexander Isak (LigaInsider): LigaInsider relay a report from FotbollDirekt claiming Dortmund’s young striker could be on his way back to his youth club AIK Solna. Isak joined Dortmund in 2017 but hasn’t broken into the first team just yet and it seems patience is running thin.
Daily Buzz: Who has been Dortmund’s best player so far? Unlike the last couple seasons, BVB actually have plenty of high performing players but who has been the best so fat, Reus, Witsel, Sancho, Bürki or maybe even someone completely different?
