  • Reus won’t join national team

Marco Reus has withdrawn from joining the German national team because of knee problems. BVB’s captain will instead stay in Dortmund and rehab the injury. There is no official timetable for his return. Hopefully He’ll just need the two weeks off and will be back for the important games after the international break.

  • Alcacer can imagine staying in Dortmund

Paco Alcacer had a fantastic start to his BVB-career. In just 81 Bundesliga minutes he has already scored 6 goals and is leading the race for the Torjägerkanone despite never starting a game in the league. During the post-game interview with Sky Sport after his hattrick he commented on his future saying “I’m feeling very comfortable in Dortmund. I can imagine staying longer than just one year in Dortmund. Goals are important to me but more important is the atmosphere within the team”.

Borussia Dortmund have an option to buy Alcacer for 23€ million at the end of the season. Reports that suggested Barcelona have a clause to deny that option were false. The Spanish club only has an option of first refusal should BVB decide to sell Alcacer in the future.

  • VfB Stuttgart sack Korkut

Stuttgart started this season with a lot of expectations, a good finish to last season, some (supposedly) good moves in the off-season and the fact that they kept their World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard meant that a lot of people thought they could challenge for the top 6 in the Bundesliga. In reality they find themselves in last place after 7 games with just one victory and 5 points. This has lead to the sacking of Tayfun Korkut.

BVB will have to play an away game against VfB Stuttgart with an entirely new coach which isn’t exactly great. Teams that underwent a coaching change usually tend to be a bit of a wildcard. Lucien favre will not know what to expect and have no knowledge of how they will play. It will be a tough game for BVB.

Daily Buzz: BVB at the top, Bayern struggle, Hoffenheim, Schalke and Leverkusen in the relegation zone and Bremen, Gladbach and Hertha are flying high. There have been quite a few surprising turns already in this Bundesliga season. Which team’s situation is the biggest surprise to you?
