Gomez has been a standout on Barcelona’s U-17 squad, and looked especially impressive during the U-17 World Cup last summer. According to RAC 1’s Joan Maria Pou, the youngster was drawn to Dortmund because he was offered playing time by manager Peter Stöger, something he wouldn’t otherwise get for a long time in Barcelona.
It’s hard not to like this deal. By most accounts, Gomez is a star in the making. Three million is a lot for a 17 year old, but if Gomez can play well for the club and be sold for ten times that much (or more) in a couple years, then it will be worth it. With the likes of Aleksander Isak, Christian Pulisic, Jaden Sancho, and now Gomez, Dortmund is becoming quite the destination for young stars looking to earn first squad experience.
