- CBs for sale?
With the arrival of Manuel Akanji it seems like BVB have to many centerbacks. Currently Dortmund have 6 CBs under contract and it is possible one or two might leave. According to Sport Bild, both Neven Subotic and Marc Bartra would be allowed to leave the club.
Subotic is currently linked to French Ligue 1 team As St. Etienne by several outlets, a transfer seems likely. Meanwhile Marc Bartra needs guaranteed minutes to get into Spain’s World Cup roster which is currently unlikely at Dortmund with Sokratis, Toprak and possibly Akanji ahead of him on the depth chart.
- Akanji/Tah pairing next season?
While some defenders might leave Dortmund, there are rumors about another one joining the black and yellows this summer. A WAZ report claims Dortmund will be trying to sign Jonathan Tah (21) from Bayer Leverkusen. The young centerback has a 25€ million release clause in his contract and is one of Germany’s most talented defenders. Signing Tah just six months after Akanji could possibly solve Dortmund’s defensive woes and give them a young, dynamic CB-pairing to build around.
- Who will replace Aubameyang?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has likely played his last game for Borussia Dortmund. His father and agent, Pierre Aubameyang is currently in London to negotiate with Arsenal London. Dortmund are fed up with the strikers antics and are seemingly willing to part ways with PEA.
Given the fact that Dortmund need a striker now, the search for a replacement won’t be easy. Nevertheless it seems like Michael Zorc already has two candidates who could replace him in the short term. BVB could agree to a swap deal with Arsenal, getting Olivier Giroud + a fee in return for Aubameyang. While this wouldn’t be ideal, Giroud is somewhat underrated and would be a solid striker for the rest of the season.
According to Bild Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi is another possible replacement. The 24-year-old wants to leave Chelsea in order to get more minutes at another club. Dortmund could loan him until the end of the season or even buy him if
