The main story swirling around Borussia Dortmund throughout this week has been over the FC Barcelona delegation arriving in Dortmund and looking to leave with BVB’s most prized young asset - winger Ousmane Dembele.
An obvious replacement for Neymar, Dembele, only 20-years-old, signed with Dortmund last season from Stade Rennais for €13.5M. In just one season, he has already made his mark on a global scale. Dembele earned his first cap with the French national team last year and dominated with Dortmund.
In 51 matches last season, Dembele scored 11 times and added 20 assists. His creativity and vision are incredible for a player his age, and his speed puts him over the top. The deal Barcelona is proposing would make Ousmane Dembele the second-most expensive footballer of all-time (behind Neymar, of course).
But it’s still unclear whether or not he’s on the move to Barcelona.
Early this morning, a buzz was generated around reports of Barcelona officials arriving in Dortmund to negotiate for the transfer of Dembele out of Germany. It was even reported that a price had been reached and agreed upon by both sides.

Kicker later affirmed this report, stating that Dortmund would be willing to let Dembele walk for €120M. Meanwhile, Bild reported that Dortmund gave Barcelona a threshold of €110M for the sale of Dembele.
With no other media updates breaking ground, the focus turned to those close to Dembele for any clues to indicate whether he is making the move to Barcelona.
Ousmane’s best friend and Dortmund reserve team player Moustapha Diatta posted an Instagram story stating “He’s signed”. The message, albeit suspicious, could mean anything but likely concerns Dembele.

If Dembele is to leave, Dortmund will be fetching a pretty penny for his transfer. With that money, BVB is going to have to find a way to replace one of the most talented young wingers in the world - a task that obviously won’t be easy.
With the transfer window slowly shutting, there aren’t many players still available. And with Emre Mor also seemingly on the move, the talented young wingers Dortmund brought in last year are making a mass exodus.
Although nothing has been announced yet, the pessimist side of the BVB community truly believes Dembele’s departure is imminent.
