Reports: BVB accept €13M bid for Emre Mor from Celta Vigo

The time for puns is over. There will be no Mor.

For the entire summer, it has seemed like Emre Mor’s departure was always imminent. Now, a few days before the transfer window closes, the time seems to have come. Spanish network CRTVG has reported that BVB have accepted a €13 Million bid for the young Turkish winger from Celta Vigo, who finished 13th in La Liga last season.

While it’s unfortunate that BVB have to let such a talented youngster go, it’s probably for the better for both parties. At BVB, Emre Mor sits well behind the likes of Max Philipp, Andriy Yarmolenko, Marco Reus, and Christian Pulisic on the depth chart, and there are more wingers like Jacob Bruun-Larsen budding in the youth ranks for him to compete with.

While he was a highly-touted prospect last summer, he never quite fit in with the squad. While there was never any doubt about his talent, his passing, decision making, and sense of place within the team never really developed. His relationship with Thomas Tuchel was apparently rather strained, and he hasn’t had much playing time under Peter Bosz.

At Celta Vigo he will get more minutes, and he will still get to face quality opponents. In the long run it’s best for his own development. We wish you luck, Emre!
