CL Draw: Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and APOEL Nicosia

Group of death?

Borussia Dortmund have a tough task ahead of them if they want to play Champions League football after the month of December. The black and yellows drew arguably the toughest teams from pot 1 and 3, meaning current title holder Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur. The fourth team in group H will be APOEL Nicosia from Cyprus.

Real Madrid probably needs no introduction. Los Blancos are not only the current champions but they are also the record Champions League winners with 12 titles and the only team that has achieved the task of defending the title since the switch to the Champions League-format. Cristiano Ronaldo & Co. are probably the best team in the world right now but Dortmund has had good results against them recently and Real has never been able to win in Dortmund.

Tottenham Hotspur will be an extremely tricky opponent in the group stage. While the Spurs have a spotty track record in Europe they have been one of the most consistent teams in England recently, finishing second in the Premier League last season. Dortmund easily defeated them two years ago in the Europa League but they will meet an entirely different Tottenham team this season.

The fourth draw was a bit more kind to Dortmund when APOEL FC joined the group. The Cypriot champions from 2016-17 are a solid team that could be decisive in this group if Dortmund don’t take six points in both games against them.

What do you think about the draw? Will we get through?
