The Daily Bee (August 21st, 2017): Watzke talks about Dembélé

Spitzenreiter, Spitzenreiter! Hey, hey!

  • DFB Cup 2nd round

Borussia Dortmund got a rather easy draw in the second round of the DFB Cup considering it could have been way worse. 3.Bundesliga side 1.FC Magdeburg is a solid side but should ultimately be no problem for the black and yellows.

In other news, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich drew each other, so one of the favorites will already be out after the 2nd round.

  • Watzke on the Dembélé-situation

Hans-Joachim Watzke was a guest on “Wontorra-der Fussball-Talk”, a TV-show on German football broadcaster Sky and he had some interesting things to say about Ousmane Dembélé and Barcelona.

Here are a few oh his quotes:

“On Thursday we had a meeting with Barcelona. On Friday Dembélé missed training. You can guess what happened. Two weeks ago I considered barcelona a great and respectable club. Today, I have to say I’m not so sure about that.”

With this statement he’s quite obviously insinuating that Barca had something to do with Ous missing team practice. We don’t know if that’s true or not but Watzke certainly thinks Barca suggested Ous should go on strike.

“We told him we would allow him [to leave], but not after only a year. We’re not budging on what we’ve asked for, not a cent……. We can’t accept €30m less than what we haveve asked for. Right now, his transfer is 50-50.”

“The situation is simple. Either Barcelona pay our asking price or Dembélé stays.”

Both Watzke and Zorc have made this abundantly clear over the past few days. There is a price, probably a hefty one, that they have in mind for Dembélé, Barca can pay it and BVB will let Ous go then. If they don’t, Dembélé will have to stay in Dortmund if he wants or not.

Daily Buzz: Dortmund lead the Bundesliga! I’m already looking forward to May 13th 2018 when I get to write “Borussia Dortmund played a dominant season where they got the lead on the first matchday of the Bundesliga and did not give it up all season long.”

Now that the first matchday of the season is over, which team impressed you and which one was disappointing?
