Suddenly a shortage of wingers for Dortmund

  • BVB interested to bring in Toljan?

According to Revier Sport Dortmund are interested in young fullback Jeremy Toljan. The 23-year-old player from TSG Hoffenheim is one of Germany’s most talented fullbacks and is a versatile player being able to play on both sides of the pitch.

Toljan appeared in 21 games for Hoffenheim last season (1 goal, 1 assist) and won the U21 European championship with Germany this summer. With Schmelzer and Guerreiro injured, Piszczek losing a step, Durm being injury prone and Passlack not being ready to step in right away, Toljan would be a good addition that added depth to a troublesome position for Dortmund and he could compete with Lukasz Piszczek for the starting spot at right back.

His contract runs until 2018 and he has refused to sign a new deal so far which means this summer would probably be Hoffenheim’s last chance to sell him.

  • Competitive football is back!

Finally! After an excruciating wait competitive is back this weekend with the first round of the DFB Cup. Dortmund will take on FC Rielasingen-Arlen tomorrow and hope to get a good start as the defending champs.

It will be interesting to see how exactly BVB will line up among growing injury (and other) concerns. Here’s a list of all the players that are currently injured or recently coming back from an injury: Schmelzer, Guerreiro, Weigl, Reus, Rode (all definitely out) - Schürrle, Kagawa, Götze, Bruun Larsen, Durm (all started training this week) and Toprak and Pulisic had minor concerns this week. Oh yeah, and there is that little incident with Ousmane Dembélé that will keep him off the pitch.

So who will actually play on the wing? We can assume Maximilian Philipp is a lock for tomorrow. Pulisic trained individually this week because of minor injury concerns and the rest is either out or just back from an injury. We’ll see what Bosz has in store for us.
