Too many injuries for BVB?

This Sunday’s final preseason friendly match for Borussia Dortmund against FSV Zwickau has been postponed with no makeup date announced.

The match, which directly follows Saturday’s DFB-Pokal match against FC Rielasingen-Arlen, was called off due to Dortmund’s injury concerns.

"We see ourselves in the obligation to play this friendly game with a well-filled team, this is not guaranteed in the present situation," said BVB Sports Director Michael Zorc in a statement released by the club.

Although no makeup date has yet been scheduled, the club’s statement assured their desire to hold the friendly later in the year, likely in early September.

With the Bundesliga season just over a week away, the primary focus for Dortmund appears to be getting healthy. There have been various minor knocks this preseason along with several Dortmund players working back from major injuries carrying over from last season and earlier this summer.

The decision was well received by Zwickau president Jörg Schade:

We are very happy about BVB's open approach. We would rather welcome such a strong opponent a bit later, but in the interest of our fans and all football friends in the region with an even more attractive team.

Dortmund’s first Bundesliga match will be held on August 19th, away to Wolfsburg.
