After days of tension and wondering whether or not Ousmane Dembele would be leaving Borussia Dortmund, the club has released a statement regarding his current situation.
“Borussia Dortmund has held talks with FC Barcelona regarding the possible transfer of the BVB player Ousmane Dembélé to FC Barcelona.
During the meeting, the preventatives of FC Barcelona submitted a bid which did not correspond to the player’s extraordinary footballing and other abilities nor to the present economic market situation of the European transfer market. BVB therefore rejected this offer.
As there is no other offer from FC Barcelona to date, there is currently no transfer of the player to FC Barcelona and this is not currently likely.”
The statement comes after Ousmane Dembele missed Dortmund training this morning without permission or authorization from the club. Ruhr Nachrichten reported the club could not make contact with Dembele this morning and manager Peter Bosz was hoping that “nothing bad had happened.”
Peter Bosz addressed the situation, saying he would first like to speak with Dembele personally about his absence. Dembele had been training regularly with the team up until Wednesday.
As for the proposed move to Barcelona, Bild is reporting that talks between the two clubs are continuing. Barcelona is looking to replace Neymar, who made a world-record €222M-move to Paris-Saint Germain.
Barcelona sent an entourage to Liverpool and Dortmund in pursuit of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. Liverpool rejected Barcelona’s bid for Coutinho earlier this week.
