Today’s DFB Pokal Final has certainly not disappointed for the neutrals. Dortmund took the lead early, were pegged back by Frankfurt before halftime, and now have another lead via a penalty from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Christian Pulisic earned the penalty, and Auba’s cheeky finish helped put past bad memories at the penalty spot behind him.

First of all, it’s 100% a penalty. Pulisic was played through by a delightful chip from Guerreiro, and that caused Frankfurt keeper Lukas Hradecky to come off his line. Hradecky’s extended right leg certainly makes enough contact to bring the American down.

Hradecky is known for his penalty saving skills, but he was no match for Aubameyang this time. If this really is Auba’s last game for Dortmund, he’s signed off with the same swagger we always came to expect from him. That chip is quintessential Aubameyang.

The goal gives Dortmund a 2-1 lead in the final, but only time will tell if they can hold on and take home the cup.
