We still don’t know where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be playing next season. He could easily stay at Dortmund and he could just as easily leave the club. What we do know, is that we won’t find out his decision at least until after the upcoming DFB Pokal Final.
If Auba leaves, someone will have to be signed in the transfer window to replace him at striker.
According to Kicker, that someone could be Sampdoria’s Patrik Schick. Here’s my poor translation of their report:
Borussia Dortmund have the Czech attacker Patrik Schick from the Italian first division Sampdoria Genoa on the radar, the 21-year-old belongs to the circle of the BVB observed player.
Not a ton of information, but Schick has been someone that plenty of BVB fans have voiced their interest in. It’s a transfer that makes a lot of sense, and Kicker is a good source.
The Czech international scored 11 goals in Serie A this season, which is an impressive return for a 21-year-old who played in the Czech league the previous season.
Schick has decent size at 6’2, but he’s certainly not slow. He’s also incredibly skillful. Look at this goal he scored recently against Crotone:
It’s not hard to see why some are comparing him to a young Dennis Bergkamp. That is some incredible technical ability.
Schick is attracting interest from elsewhere, most notably Italian giants Juventus. He’d probably cost upwards of €30 million.
I’ve written about the need to replace Auba with a star striker if he leaves, and Schick definitely fits the bill. This is a young and skillful player who could become one of the best strikers in Europe.
That’s exactly the type of player that Dortmund should be signing.
