Dortmunders Give Monaco Fans Refuge

In the wake of today’s events, there is a lot of uncertainty and a lot of unsettlement in the air around Dortmund. Usually, we think of football as the type of thing that is immune to the outside world, that allows us to escape the harsh realities that we face as a society. Unfortunately, today, the violence of our times caught up with us.

American author James Lane Allen said, “Adversity does not build character, it reveals it.” If this is true, then the supporters of Borussia Dortmund showed their character. Many visiting Monaco supporters had no places to stay, so BVB fans stepped in and offered their homes as places of shelter.

The first one says “Football, a great big family.” I couldn’t agree more. When it boils down to it, we football fans all share a love of the game, which in a way makes us all family. This was a classy move by Dortmund fans who showed that there is still plenty of good in the world.

To all our readers in Dortmund, stay safe. To Marc Bartra, get better!
