More like Neverkusen amirite????
Dortmund beat Leverkusen 6-2 this weekend in the highest scoring game this Bundesliga season. Our goals came from Aubameyang(2), Dembele, Pulisic, Schurrle, and Raph. The Leverkusen goals were from Voland and Wendell.
It may be a little unfair to say we smashed Bayer. We did go out ahead quickly with Ousmane Demebele absolutely ripping apart the Bayer back line for the first goal but the game was back and forth after. Auba got a easy one in the 26th minute to put us up 2-0 and most thought the game would be over at that point. We were getting shot after shot the whole first half, and while Bayer were getting some good chances of their own they were also getting themselves into foul trouble. Reus had to be subbed off injured in the first half in what is probably the low point of the game. Hopefully he will be ready for Benfica but there is currently no news.
The second half started badly for BVB. We gave up a goal almost immediately to Kevin Volland, who up to that point had been the worst player on the pitch. Then Bayer came at us again and again for the next 10 minutes coming close to getting another goal or two. We missed our fair amount of chances in the first 20 minutes of the second half as well. However in the 69th minute Dembele served up a ball for Auba to slot in easily for his second of the game. While the game probably should have slowed down and been done there with only 20 minutes to go, this is where things got fun. The second Leverkusen goal was probably the only goal the whole season you can’t blame a BVB player for. Wendell put in an absolutely perfect free kick into the net. There was zero chance any keeper would get it. 3-2 was the score with 15 minutes to go. Then Pulisic slide one in after a great dribble 4-2. A few minutes later future BVB CB Toprak fouled Schurrle in the box for a pen, which Schurrle converted into 5-2. To pile on Leno, whose birthday was today, Raph scored a deflection to make it 6-2. Yeah a lot happened in the last 20 mins.
All in all it was a great game for BVB. Bartra was a real star today. He made a couple of big defensive plays as well as playing the attacker with a few good chances at goal. Aubameyang passed Lewa in the all time BVB goal scorer list and seems to be coming out of his goal drought. Ousmane Dembele was without a doubt the MOTM with a goal and assist as well as carving up the Bayer defense all game. He really is one of the best talents in the league right now. Your gonna hear the name Ousmane Dembele a lot for the next 15 years or so.
