- Bender and Sahin with setbacks
Sven Bender and Nuri Sahin were supposed see some game-action with BVB II over the weekend, sadly they had to sit the game out. Both players were scheduled to get some minutes during the game but due to the strenuous practices they had this week the coaching and medical teams decided that it would be better for them to wait a bit more.
BVB II lost to Viktoria Köln 2:3 in the Regionalliga West and are now 6 points behind them in the table with one game in hand. They are still sin second place but the team will need to finish in first place to get promoted to the 3.Bundesliga.
- International games
A lot of BVB-players played for their respective countries over the weekend, here's a short summary:
André Schürrle: Schürrle had his fair share of problems this season, he was injured a lot and then he fell behind on the depth chart, not only behind Marco Reus but also behind teenagers Ousmane Dembélé and Christian Pulisic. However the most expensive BVB-transfer ever had a good game for Germany against Azerbaijan. He was the MOTM, scoring twice and assisting on another goal in their 4-1 win. Let's hope he can carry over this form to the black and yellows.
Ousmane Dembélé: He played the entire game for France in their 3-1 win in Luxembourg. As per usual he showed why he is one of the most exciting young players in the world with a lot of good dribblings and good runs. L'Equipe tricolore will play a friendly against Spain on Tuesday.
Raphael Guerreiro: The 23-year-old played 90 minutes at left back for Portugal in their crucial 3-0 win against Hungary. He got the assist for the 1-0 when he set up André Silva with a beautiful pass in the 32nd minute. Portugal will play another WC-qualifier on Tuesday against Sweden.
Sokratis: Our Greek Wall played the entire game against Belgium in their 1-1 draw. Greece was close to getting three points but Romelu Lukaku scored in the 90th minute to equalize. On Greece's side they had to finish the game with 9 men after two of their players got sent off.
Christian Pulisic: Captain America scored in the USMNTs 6-0 win against Honduras. He also amassed three assists in a MOTM-performance. Pulisic & Co. will have to play similarly in their WC-qualifier against Panama.
Emre Mor: The teenager had his 9th appearance for Turkey in their 2-0 win against Finland. It was a crucial win for Turkey but they are still just in fourth place in group I behind Croatia, Iceland and Ukraine.
Shinji Kagawa: Kagawa played 71 minutes in Japan's 2-0 win against the United Arab Emirates. They'll play against Thailand on Tuesday and try to defend the second place in group B of the Asian WC-qualifiers.
Lukasz Piszczek: "Pischu" started his career as a striker before he got converted to right back years ago. He was never much of a scorer though, until now. The Pole has already scored 5 times in the Bundesliga this season and now he scored the winner for Poland against Montenegro in the WC-qualifier. Poland extended their lead in group E with a 2-1 win and are now 6 points clear of Montenegro and Denmark.
