The rumors about Liverpool’s supposed interest in Christian Pulisic have been around for a while. Dortmund’s American 18-year-old is one of the brightest teenagers in European football, obviously there will be interest from other clubs.
But whether our old friend Jurgen Klopp wants him at Liverpool or not, Pulisic has come out and spoken (to FourFourTwo) specifically about the links to Merseyside for the first time. The quotes will reassure you that Christian is here to stay.
“I have respect for Klopp and I know him – he was very welcoming to me here – but I was never really thinking about going to Liverpool.”
“Borussia Dortmund have given me everything. If I work very hard here, I will play, and I love this club. I’m happy in the city, I’m just really content with everything here at the moment.”
YOU HEAR THAT LIVERPOOL FANS? You can stop fantasizing now, because it ain’t happening.
It did take Pulisic a little bit to settle into life in Germany, but it’s great to see how happy he is now. After a busy summer transfer-wise, there were questions about what his playing time at Dortmund would be like this season.
But some of Thomas Tuchel’s new signings haven’t performed as expected. There have also been injuries in the squad, especially in the wide roles that Pulisic usually plays in. The result: plenty of playing time for a developing 18-year-old.
Pulisic’s potential is incredibly high, and it’s wonderful that he wants to continue developing towards that potential at Borussia Dortmund.
I’m sure Southampton have some promising youngsters that Klopp can sign instead.
