Sportfreunde Lotte - BVB cancelled!

That sucks.

Today's DFB Cup quarterfinal game between Sportfreunde Lotte and Borussia Dortmund is cancelled.

The reason for the postponement is a combination of rain and snow that made the pitch unplayable. Referee Felix Brych deemed the playing field dangerous for the players and thus came to the decision, after consultation with both teams, that the game should be cancelled.

At this point it is unclear when the game will actually take place. Dortmund will have to play a Champions League home game against Benfica Lisbon next week so the earliest possible date could be the 14th of March.

In addition it remains to be seen where the game will be played. DFB-rules forbid a home game for Dortmund and it is highly unlikely that Lotte's pitch will be ready in two weeks. It is possible that Sportfreunde Lotte find another stadium to play in. Osnabrück and Bielefeld are two cities that have bigger stadiums that could host the game.

Stay tuned for any further news.

UPDATE: We will have to wait until tomorrow for further news about the date and location for the game. Check back tomorrow for new developments about this story.
